<p><b>Fragmentos de la intervención de Sánchez Silva en los que alude a Iparraguirre: </b></p>
<p>..."Hubiérase limitado á probar esto el señor Egaña, y nos hubiera ahorrado parte de nuestro trabajo; pero su señoría insistió muchas veces en que la guerra civil terminó por la promesa de conservar los fueros á las provincias del Norte, y aun cuando no creamos -que «aquellas cabanas repitan todavía los ecos da su tan amado Iparraguirre,» que por lo visto era un revolucionario de primera, no pudo menos de llamarnos la atencion tan marcada insistencia sobre ese punto, y el acento de convicción con que aseguraba el orador «que si el general Lersundi fuera á aquel país con la ídea de reunir un respetable cuerpo de ejército antes de dos meses habría realizado su propósito.»<br/>

No crea tampoco el señor Egaña que vamos á analizar lo que dijo acerca del «zapaterillo de Deva» ni si fué ó no oportuno leer desde la cruz á la fecha la cancion de «aquel pastorcillo, después jefe carlista y convertido por último en trovador de las provincias, á quien el general Mazarredo tuvo que mandar con la música á otra parte y que fué á parar á Montevideo,» porque no nos parece absolutamente necesario saber lo que cantaba, ni lo que fué, ni cómo murió Iparraguirre para decidir si las provincias Vascongadas, que gozan de todos los beneficios que las demás de España, deben contribuir proporcional y ordenadamente al sostenimiento de las cargas póblicas"...</p>

"Habia, señores, en el campo de don Carlos un joven acribillado de heridas, que habia ido á la guerra cuando apenas contaba diez y seis años, dejando su humilde oficio de pastor; pertenecía al cuerpo de alabarderos del ex-infante, y cuando se hizo el convenio, este hombre que se llamaba Iparraguirre, no quiso reconocer á la Reina y marchó á la emigracion, en la cual permaneció largo tiempo hasta que de vuelta á su pais natal, se dedicó á recorrer los pueblos cantando canciones cuyo asunto eran los fueros; llamábanle el Bardo vascongado. Pues bien, señores, ¿sabéis qué impresiones causaba su acento? Pues era tal, que el capitán general de las provincias, entonces el general Mazarredo, tuvo que mandarle salir de aquel territorio. Yo he concurrido á uno de esos cantos al árbol de Guernica, y he visto reunidas mas de 6,000 personas que se postraban de rodillas ó levantaban sus brazos en ademan solemne, siguiendo los sentimientos que la voz de Iparraguirre les inspiraba. ¡Y luego dice el señor Sánchez Silva que los vascongados no quieren sus fueros, cuando al simple canto de una persona oscura, de un pastor, se agitan las muchedumbres conmovidas"...</p>

"Por aquelllos días hizo su primera aparición en Bilbao el famoso bardo Iparraguirre; hombre extraordinario por sus portentosas cualidades de poeta y músico, creador y ejecutante, dotado de hermosa voz, corpulencia varonil y apuesto continente, en el que se acentuaban los rasgos más característicos de la raza a la que pertenecía"...
Crónica novelada. En el capítulo da cuenta del paso de Iparraguirre por Bilbao, y del impacto que tuvo en la sociedad vasca de la época. Contiene vívidas descripciones del personaje, acompañadas de las ilustraciones contemporáneas de Pancho Bringas. Hace un esbozo biográfico de Iparraguirre, en especial, de los años de juventud, y de su éxito como músico 'de la tierra'.
